Cleaning the shelves in your home

Cleaning the shelves in your home

Shelves don't just give you valuable storage space. They also allow you to display objects from your home decoratively. No matter where they are (the bedroom, living room or kitchen), the shelves need to be cleaned from time to time. In this post we will tell you how to remove dirt from your shelves.
Clean shelves step by step:
1. Remove items from shelves. Place them in a box or on the floor in the same order as they were on it. This will make it easier for you to place the objects in their original position. If the shelves are long, you can remove the items and dust the surface into sections.
2. Lightly moisten a clean cotton cloth with a cleaner. The type of cleaner depends on the material on which the shelf is made. Generally a multipurpose cleaner is sufficient for most materials.
3. Dust off both sides of the shelf with a microfiber cloth. Wipe with the cloth moistened with a cleanser and let it dry for several seconds. You can dry the area with another dry cloth.
4. Put the items back in their original (or new) position. Wipe them with a damp cloth first.
5. Vacuum or sweep dust around the shelves to remove dust and debris that fell during the cleaning process.
What to consider when cleaning shelves?
• If the shelves are greasy or very dirty, clean them with a mixture consisting of 3 tablespoons of a baking soda cleaner and a cup of warm water. Lightly moisten a soft cloth with the solution and use it to clean dirt and grime from your surface. The preservation of the wood is delicate, be careful not to impenish it. Let it dry outdoors.
• If your shelves are sticky, you should clean them using a cloth moistened with water as hot as you can resist without harming yourself (we recommend wearing gloves). You won't need any other extra cleaners. This process takes some time, so be patient.
• Cleaning shelves with some frequency (at least once a week) will help extend the time between thorough cleanings needed.
• Shelves found in high humidity rooms, including the bathroom and kitchen, will need to be cleaned more frequently.
• When you remove all items from the shelves, take the opportunity to decide which ones will stay with you and which ones you want to get rid of.
Despite following these maintenance, we recommend that you do a thorough cleaning of your home every year.
